It’s the perfect day for a walk and if you live in Lowell, the Merrimack River beckons. The blues and greens are popping, as well as some sorry-looking trash in the water… but that’s Lowell, the city of contrasts, where the two main sounds you hear are rushing water and sirens. Jenny Hudson
There’s actually ice chunks on the canal out my window in Lowell, and evidently at Mine Falls Park in Nashua, Winter has come. Here are frozen patterns etched on the ice and some scenic reminders of the season I wasn’t sure had arrived.
This most photogenic city transforms by the hour, and the ice picks up the warm colors of the reflected buildings as the light fades into night.
The freezing temperatures made some great patterns on the ice on the Merrimack and the colorful ducks slid over them to get some food, dropped over the railing on the River Walk. It’s good to remember to feed these guys, since the pickings are slim.
The season has started with high school and college bands setting the pace in Lowell’s City of Lights Parade, an early evening delight, brightening the streets with it’s colorful lights.
This is the prettiest autumn I’ve seen in years and these photos are taken in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Ohio, and New York.
The Merrimack Valley was socked with a snow storm as early as I can ever remember and two days later, many of us are still without power. Here’s some photos of the contrast between the foliage and the snow.
